We investigated the associations of the siesta with blood pressure and hypertension in 1175 older adults by analysing basic and clinical data, including blood pressure, serum lipid profiles and adipocyte fatty acid-binding protein. Habitual siesta subjects had reduced systolic pressure levels and decreased serum adipocyte fatty acid-binding protein concentrations, compared with that of non-siesta subjects. Siesta is significantly associated with a decreased prevalence of hypertension and this association is attenuated by further adjustment for adipocyte fatty acid-binding protein.
