Aim: To investigate the relationship between myocardial viability and presence of arrhythmia in patients with the history of myocardial infarction. Methods: Ninety-eight patients with the history of infarction were studied. Myocardial viabilities were detected by 99 Tc m MIBI myocardial tomography with nitroglycerin administration. The presence of arrhythmia was detected by 24-hour ambulatory electrocardiography. Results: Fifty-five (56.1%) out of the 98 patients had improvement of perfusion after nitroglycerin administration. Among them, arrhythmia was found in 32 patients (58.2%), compared with 11 patients (25.6%) with arrhythmia in the group without myocardial viability (P < 0.01). Conclusion: Myocardial viability in patients with the history of myocardial infarction is closely related to cardiac function and a higher frequency of arrhythmia.
