Objective The study aimed to explore the effect of laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) on low-grade inflammatory response in obese patients. Materials and Methods A total of twenty-one patients: 2 men and 19 women, age range from 32 to 46 years (mean age 36.4 years), and mean body mass index (BMI) 50.3 who underwent LSG were enrolled in this study from 2016 to 2019. C-reactive protein (CRP), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and tumor necrosis factor (TNF-alpha) were detected before surgery, 1 month and 3 months after surgery. The metabolic parameters were also evaluated in these patients. Results At baseline, body weight, BMI, and waistline were 110.76 kg, 41.11 kg/m(2), and 108.05 cm, respectively, in obese group, with significant expression of triglyceride, HbA1c, CRP, and IL-6. At 1 month and 3 months post-operative, glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c), triglyceride (TG), and total cholesterol (TC) were all improved, and HbA1c decreased most significantly. Similarly, creatinine (Cr), alanine transaminase (ALT), and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) decreased as well but did not differ significantly. CRP showed a significant decrease in patients at 3 months after surgery compared to patients before operation. There were no significant differences of IL-6 and TNF-alpha among the groups. Conclusions LSG was effective in both improvement metabolic parameters and decreasing the expression of CRP, in addition to weight loss of obese patients.
