Both basic and clinical research on cardiovascular anesthesia has been conducted productively in China over the last few years. Major areas of interest are the following: organ protection, including myocardial, lung, and cerebral protections; blood transfusion study; hemodynamic monitoring and management (pulmonary artery catheters and echocardiography); adverse event risk factors analysis in cardiovascular anesthesia; and cellular and molecular mechanisms of pharmacology and organ injuries in cardiac surgery. Most research projects are funded by the individual province/city Committee on Science and Technology, the Ministry of Science and Technology, and the Chinese National Health and Family Planning Commission.
