Objective To treat the three cases of high grade carotid stenosis resulted from carotid atherosclerosis with stent-assisted carotid angioplasty in China. Methods A total of three patients with ischemic strokes was selected. Two of the patients showed the symptoms with transient ischemic attacts(TIA), one of them had symptoms of cerebral infarction. All of these three cases disclosed more than 70% stenosis of the contralateral proximal internal carotid arteries. The three carotid angioplasties were carried out using the Palmaz154 or Wallstent stents. Results After stent-assisted carotid angioplasty, the clinical symptoms disappeared and angiographic results were successful. There were no obvious complications in the procedures. Conclusion Carotid stent angioplasty is an effective and safe method in treating high grade carotid stenosis resulted from carotid atherosclerosis.
