摘要：
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) has been one of the leading causes of mortality worldwide, and atherosclerosis (As) is a common pathogenic basis for CVD. Xuezhikang is a purified extract of fermented red yeast rice with benefits to improvement of As. Apart from being a safe and effective lipid-lowering drug, Xuezhikang has drawn growing awareness due to its cardiovascular protection beyond lipid modulation. Studies have shown that Xuezhikang exerts its anti-atherosclerotic function via mechanisms as the following: regulation of endothelial function, protection for endothelial progentitor cells, alleviation of oxidative stress and attenuation of inflammation. This article reviews the research progress of Xuezhikang on cardiovascular protection against atherosclerosis from the above aspects. © 2019, Chinese Journal of New Drugs Co. Ltd. All right reserved.
